Durwood just recently retired from Australia after a short career of only 3 races.
Are you looking for a new best friend? Then Durwood could be your guy. He’ll go on walks with you (he loves walks) and then settle down for a nice long nap. He’s so smart he quickly learned how to go up and down the stairs and stay off of the furniture. Besides being super handsome, Durwood has a special talent: he can sit! (a rare feat for a greyhound). He’s calm, quiet, sheds very little and he’s gentle around children. Durwood loves people, he’s eager to please and he’s an all around great companion. Sounds like the perfect dog, right? He just might be your new best friend.
Durwood (or Woody as we sometimes call him) is very affectionate. Despite his size (probably 70-75 lbs) this goofy guy is a lapdog at heart. Whenever you’re getting ready to go out, he’s right there next to you, affectionately rubbing against you as if to say, “see, we’re besties, you’re taking me with you, right?” He is a constant companion, making sure that you never feel alone.
Durwood offers an enthusiastic hello to everyone he meets so he’s a terrible watchdog. He doesn’t even notice when the doorbell rings. And he is very sweet with our 16 month old granddaughter whenever she visits. She’ll share her snacks with him which he takes very delicately, never nipping at her little fingers. The snacks, of course, endeared her to him so he bowed in front of her.
Patrolling for squirrels is Durwood’s self appointed mission. He loves going on walks so he can monitor the squirrel activity in the neighborhood. He takes this role very seriously and will scope out the exact tree where he saw a squirrel yesterday. Actually, the only time he barks is to let a squirrel know that they’ve encroached on his territory. He is the quietest dog.
He was a fussy eater at first. We tried a variety of things to interest him like pumpkin and cottage cheese but his response was, meh. After some trial and error he decided his favorite is….rice. Yep, just plain old white rice sprinkled on his kibble and he gobbles it up. His favorite treats are cheese and peanut butter. He loves both unconditionally.
Durwood is a handsome boy and attracts a lot of attention when we’re on walks. He’s very smart and learns quickly. He would be the perfect pet for any (cat free) household, but also the perfect choice for a first time greyhound owner.
