Lyra just retired to AFG after 103 races and after graduating from The Greyhound Inmate Experience! Lyra has recently been returned to AFG because she cannot live with a cat. Could Lyra be the gal for you?
Lyra is a very friendly, social girl. She loves attention, but is not overly demanding. She is playful with toys and with my female greyhounds out in the yard, but she is not overly rambunctious and also likes to lay quietly being petted. When she wants to play, sometimes she can get a little mouthy and take your hand in her mouth in a gentle way, not a bite. She does engage in “nitting” where she will pinch skin with her front teeth. We are discouraging her from doing both of these behaviors. Lyra seems to enjoy her crate, but also likes laying on dog beds. She is quiet in her crate when I arrive home from work and does not make a peep until I let her out, even if it is for a few minutes. She also lays quietly in her crate in the morning until she is let out. She also rides well in the car. Lyra loves going for walks and walks well and potties well on a leash. We are working on keeping the commands she learned in the Greyhound Inmate Experience fresh. She is food motivated and aims to please. Lyra can be a bit of a whiner at times when she is bored or has to go outside. She will also become restless and pace which are signals she needs to go outside to potty. She has adapted well to our routine here and to our quiet house and our 3 female greyhounds. She seems confident and would probably do okay as an only dog.
