Alto has come to AFG with his littermates, Bass, Tenor, and Soprano. He has been tattooed, but not registered with the NGA. He is all ready to start his retirement with us. Alto is still new to us here at AFG and we are getting to know him better.
Alto is a sweet, goofy guy with a big personality and lots of antics. He is very vocal and makes lots of, er, interesting noises to let you know that he wants something (usually good or attention). His favorite thing of all time is being snuggled and held like a baby, but he also loves stuffed animals (especially lamb chop) and playing fetch with his tennis ball. He is very gentle indoors when interacting with our small dogs and cat but may need to be muzzled when playing outside with smaller dogs as he can get a little over-excited. He LOVES running outside with our older greyhound and would probably do this for hours if she wanted to run for that long. Alto needs some more practice learning commands and learning to come when called as he can be a little bit stubborn sometimes (especially if he has found something interesting in the yard) but he is very treat-motivated and seems very willing to learn. He is very curious and has lots of puppy energy, which is tons of fun, but he will definitely need some more help figuring out which things are ok to investigate and which things are not (like your dinner). He has adjusted very quickly to going up and down stairs and does this very well, although still slow and steady. When out in public Alto can get a little bit nervous at first, but he usually warms up and acts like his usual confident, outgoing self after a few minutes. Loud noises and busy roads can be especially scary, but I feel that with more exposure to these things he would not have a problem.
Overall, Alto is a wonderful dog. We are still getting to know him, but it is pretty obvious that he has a heart of gold. He is a smart and loving boy and he will do great in any home willing to offer him lots of snuggles and the patience to work with him on learning more about the world of living inside a home (and treats, he will definitely want treats).
