Philip is a quirky, shy boy with the best personality. He loves toys and pets on his own terms after warming up to you. He is very sweet, affectionate, and anxious. Philip came to AFG after his owner was no longer able to care for him. He never raced.
To get this out of the way immediately: Philip is a VERY shy dog. After over 3 months in foster, he’s just now starting to routinely come in the house when we open the door for him (we previously had to walk outside and walk around him until he ran in through the open door). Trying to bring him on walks is quite difficult, as he will not come to you to get a harness put on and he is anxious in new situations. The best thing to do with Philip is pretend that everything is okay, avoid eye contact, and move near him slowly. If he sees you coming at him, he will vroom (what we call running to the other side of the house) out of your way.
Once he realizes you’re someone he can trust and he finds a place in your house that he feels safe, he opens up. He loves to play with toys (as long as you’re not watching) and is very silly. He loves to cuddle with most other dogs, but finds a few annoying, wanting to bark in their face to scold them. He is the first to tell you that he needs to go outside or that it’s time for bed. Once he gets comfortable, he gets very confident in his voice (but still terrified if you look at him the wrong way).
Philip is great with the cats and mostly avoids them. He loves to play outside with other dogs and looks to them for his cues. He would likely need at least one other dog (and multiple would likely be better).
Philip is a very sweet boy who is goofy, shy, and hilarious. If you have the patience, time, and a tall fence, consider this sweetheart!
