Star is a little shy, a little sweet and a little happy! She came to AFG with no races to her name.
Star is a gorgeous gal with a little independent streak (but she’s never too busy for a quick snuggle!) She may be reticent at first, but once you earn her trust, she’s a delight! She’s not shy about vocally sharing her opinion about exciting things: strange dogs, odd sounds, random people walking by the house…but she can easily be redirected and most of the time is a happy, chill pup.
She is settling in well at her foster home, and she gets along with the 2 resident greyhounds. She doesn’t love it when the larger male hound stands over her and has no problem being a little bossy about establishing her boundaries. She enjoys playing friendly games of chase in the yard, and she has also had several friendly conversations with the neighbor’s (non-greyhound) dog. She is interested in the cat in her foster home, but she hasn’t demonstrated any aggression toward him (mostly, she wants to sniff him and steal his treats). She would do well in a house with other greyhounds, but she is confident enough to do well as an only dog if she isn’t left alone at home for long stretches of time.
She crates very well at night and will crate during the work day, although she would probably prefer a little more freedom of movement or limited crate time during her more active daytime hours. She has no problem making herself comfortable in dog beds, but she has not made any attempts at sitting on the sofa or getting up on human beds.
Some of her fun quirks: she can sit, but does not recognize the “sit” command yet; she is starting to play with toys, but is initially surprised when they make noise; she will chew/suck on blankets when bored, and this behavior should be strongly discouraged; she has no problem jumping into cars, but is still working on jumping out of them…patience and positive encouragement help a lot; she has a bouncy little run when she zooms around the yard, but puts on the speed as soon as she sees a bunny or a squirrel!
So far, Star has been quick to figure out household routines, and she has been good about following cues from her fellow greyhounds and her foster mom. She’s ready to bring her fun sparkling personality to her forever home! Are you ready to let this Star light up your world?
